Princeton Grad Fedun Breaks Leg
by Staff Report/
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Taylor Fedun, who graduted from Princeton last spring after a four-year career there, broke his leg playing in an NHL exhibition game for the Edmonton Oilers on Friday.
Fedun was taken off the ice on a stretcher in the second period of a game against the Minnesota Wild.
Fedun and Minnesota's Eric Nystrom were chasing after a puck near the end boards. Nystrom reached around Fedun with his stick in an attempt to touch the puck and avoid an icing call.
Video replays showed Fedun's skate getting tangled up with a stick. He crashed hard into the end boards and play was immediately stopped.
Fedun is from Edmonton, and signed with his hometown town as an undrafted free agent.
Nystrom, a Long Island native, was given a five-minute major penalty for boarding and a game misconduct.
