Union Knocks Off Michigan
by Staff Report/
Union continues its strong early-season play with perhaps its most impressive win yet.
The Dutchmen knocked off reeling Michigan, at vaunted Yost Arena, 6-3 on Sunday.
It was 4-0 before Michigan got going, making it a 4-2 game. But Jeremy Welsh's second of the game gave Union another cushion in the third period.
"It's a big win for us to come in and knock them off," Welsh said. "It's the next step for us. We've had a lot of success so it's good for us to come into these big barns and beat these teams that have national respect."
Despite Michigan's struggles, it's still a nice win for Union, which has carried things over from last season despite the change in coaches.
"It's our leadership. It's Kelly Zajac, Nolan Julseth-White, Jeremy Welsh, and Troy Grosenick," Union coach Rick Bennett said about his team's success on the road so far this season. "It all starts from the net out, and his confidence allows us to have good starts."
