DiPietro To Have Another Surgery, Miss 10 Weeks

The New York Islanders announced that Rick DiPietro will undergo surgery to repair a sports hernia. The procedure will sideline the Islanders goaltender for 10 weeks.
DiPietro, 30, has been sidelined since December 3, first with a groin strain and then with what is classified as a sports hernia and knee swelling. The Winthrop, MA, native has appeared in eight games this season, posting a 3-2-3 record.
The Islanders selected DiPietro with the first overall pick in the 2000 National Hockey League Entry Draft. In 315 career NHL games, he has a 130-133-8-28 (W-L-T-OT) record with a 2.86 goals against average and a .903 save percentage. DiPietro was named an NHL All-Star in 2008 in Atlanta and started in goal for the Eastern Conference All Stars.
But DiPietro's career has been besieged by injuries in the last four years.
