Bettman Addresses Devils Financial Issues

by Staff Report/

The NHL acknowledged this weekend, at the NHL All-Star Game festivities, that the New Jersey Devils have been advanced money by the league.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said that the Devils are "stable" and that their issues have more to do with disputes between the team's principle owners -- Jeff Vanderbeek and Ray Chambers.

Bill Daly, the deputy commissioner, said the league was not subsidizing or lending money to the Devils, but rather “advancing revenue streams that they’re otherwise entitled to.”

Bettman said he could urge the two parties to sell the team, or have one buy the other out.

“When ownership isn’t exactly in a good place, not always good things happen,” Bettman said.
