
New York and New Jersey have been breeding grounds for plenty of talented prep players over the years. Most notably, players such as Matt Coronato (Huntington, N.Y.), Jack Laferriere (Chatham, N.J.) and Trevor Zegras plied their crafts at the prep level before embarking on college and NHL stardom.
Just last season, Alex Bales (East Amherst, N.Y.) had success at Kent in his first year of prep hockey. Along with his body of work that included representing his country at the Under-17 Five Nations Tournament in August, he committed to Hockey East power Providence.
While this season’s crop of prep rookies from New York and New Jersey doesn't appear to have the star power of the aforementioned foursome, you never know. Laferriere wasn’t exactly on the radar of NHL teams or even top college programs before he got to Kent.
