How do you follow an unbeaten season that was capped off with a state championship? The same way you would any other season. Hit the ice ready to work as hard as you possibly can.
That’s the mindset of the Section III Skaneateles Lady Lakers, who wrapped up a perfect 19-0 season last spring by defeating Section VI Frontier, Lake Shore and Orchard Park, 5-1, in the NYSPHSAA girls varsity championship.
Asked if they view this season as new team, new chapter or as defending a title, Skaneateles coach Andy Rozak said, "We view it as both. We have a younger team compared to last year. However, we have a lot of our core players back that were big contributors last season."
Though graduation took a bite out of its ranks, Skaneateles returns a strong core of girls vital to the championship run — most notably junior forwards Sophia Burns and Megan Teachout and defensemen Ioanna Christou (sophomore) and Annie Rubel (junior).
