When Governor Livingston and Colonia showed up to the rink at Prudential Center for the Public C final, they expected to be playing an ice hockey game. What they endured, however, was a marathon.
In what was the longest state final in New Jersey high school hockey history, it wasn’t until a Jeremy Siksnius goal in the fourth overtime that the Highlanders were able to separate themselves and be crowned champions.
Livingston head coach Greg Jensen still thinks about the pure joy of the moment, but there was a sense of relief as well after the 5-4 triumph.
“It is cool to be a part of history like that,” he said, “but I am just happy we came out on top.”
