The wait is finally over for girls hockey in Section II, and Adirondack United has not disappointed.
Adirondack United, a collaboration of players from Queensbury, Glens Falls, South Glens Falls, Hudson Falls, Saratoga and Corinth, opened the season strong.
Section II became the seventh in New York State to offer girls hockey, joining sections I, III, IV, VI, VII and X. The United is hoping to play an 18-game regular season with league games against Section VII opponents. They will face the top Section VII team for a section title in February with the winner of that game squaring off against the Section I champion in the state quarterfinals.
Adding a Section II girls hockey team was an idea brought up as far back as 2019 but sidelined due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
