The Knowlton family is well-known among college hockey fans.
Jim Knowlton played at Army the early 1980s, serving as team captain his senior year. He went on to spend 26 years in the military, eventually ending up as athletic director at Air Force. After three years in Colorado, Knowlton took the same job with the University of California last year.
Jim and his wife, Corey, had five sons, all of whom played or are playing at the college level. Jimmy ended up in the EJHL, Pat played at Sacred Heart and Chris scored 60 points in four years at Denver. Mark is in his senior year at Trinity College.
That leaves Shawn, the youngest of the five, who is working to make a name for himself at Air Force as a sophomore. The 5-foot-8 forward isn’t the most physically imposing guy on the ice, but his hockey intellect and work ethic suggests he’ll play a key role with the Cadets when his time comes.
