Battle-tested Scott Mayfield fighting for everyday role

D-man Mayfield focuses on winning one-on-ones as he aims for more ice time

By Leo Scaglione Jr.December 1, 2017

Scott Mayfield has been fighting since he was a kid.

Fighting his older brother. Opponents. For respect. For ice time. You name it, he’s fought it.

It should come as no surprise then that Mayfield is as battle-tested as a person can be, owning a solid-as-a-rock mentality to go along with a built-like-a-rock 6-foot-4, 227-pound frame.

The 25-year-old has made a living by willing his way to the top, and it’s no different now, as the right-shooting defenseman continues to try to prove that he belongs in the New York Islanders’ everyday lineup.
