In most draft years, a player the caliber of Trevor Zegras would be the top prospect on his team and maybe in the entire United States.
However, the 2019 NHL Entry Draft isn’t like most. It’s shaping up to be a historic draft for American-born talent. On Zegras’ U.S. NTDP U-18 team, there could be as many as seven players selected in the first round, including Zegras and center Jack Hughes, the projected first overall pick.
“We have a really good collection of players. It’s exciting and it’s cool to know the history of the program and who has come and played before us,” Zegras said.
While Hughes undoubtedly steals much of the spotlight, there is plenty of buzz surrounding Zegras, a Bedford, N.Y., native.
