The 2016-17 Pingry School season ended like it does for most teams — with a loss. In fact, the season ended with two heartwrenching losses.
Pingry lost in the first round of the Non-Public tournament to Montclair Kimberly, 4-2. That came just days after the team lost in the Skyland Cup semifinals, 2-1, to Ridge, the eventual Public A championship. The game-winning goal was scored with 6.4 seconds remaining in the game.
Many members of that Pingry team returned for the 2017-18 season, and that loss is viewed as a stepping stone in the process of building a champion.
