James Marcou has been hired as the second assistant at Brown University, according to multiple sources.
Marcou has served as a volunteer assistant at his alma mater, UMass Amherst, the past two seasons. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach at Milton Academy in the prep school ranks.
A native of Kings Park, N.Y., Marcou was a standout forward for the Minutemen from 2007-2010, registering 130 points in 109 games. Following his junior season, he signed a pro contract with the San Jose Sharks’ organization. Marcou played 46 games with the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League before retiring.
Marcou replaces Josh Ciocco, who left Brown to take the second assistant position at Hockey East program Merrimack. The 30-year-old joins head coach Brendan Whittet and assistant coach Jason Guerriero on the Bears’ staff.
