D1 insider: Cicero, N.Y. native Farabee provides spark for BU

Only two weekends of January games remain, so the college hockey season is beginning to hit the home stretch throughout the country.

With the IIHF World Junior Championship now in the rear view, a pair of Tri-State natives provided a big boost to their collegiate teams from Hockey East last week after returning home with silver medals for their efforts as members of Team USA.

Cicero, N.Y., native Joel Farabee has been a key player for Boston University all season, though he’s picked up the scoring pace as the team has picked up its overall play. The freshman is tied for second on the team with 16 points through 19 games, but he has scored two of his six goals and totaled five points in the last three games.

“I don't really think the tournament did anything. We're just playing a lot better during the second half and creating more offense for ourselves,” said Farabee, whose BU team is 4-0-1 in its last five games and hosts Quinnipiac in a Saturday non-conference game.
