The top players in ECAC Hockey during the month of January found themselves helping their Tri-State programs to recent great success of late.
Cornell’s Morgan Barron was named Player of the Month after scoring four goals and adding nine assists for a league-leading 13 points in eight games while playing with fellow sophomores Cam Donaldson and Brenden Locke. Yale’s Justin Pearson and Clarkson’s Jake Kielly were named Rookie and Goaltender of the Month, respectively.
Barron posted a nation-leading plus-10 rating in January and factored into four of the five game-winning goals during a Cornell winning streak that ended with last Saturday’s 3-2 overtime loss to local rival Colgate. Despite that latest loss which made the Big Red 6-1-1 on the month, Barron had a goal, an assist, and nine shots on goal.
Barron is a New York Rangers prospect from Halifax, Nova Scotia who leads the Big Red with 21 points, including nine goals, after recording 18 during all of last season. He was New York’s sixth-round pick in 2017.
