No surprises. No upsets. The SUNYAC Tournament championship game pits the first seed against second seed. It pits two teams ranked in the top five in the USCHO.com poll – and the only SUNYAC teams ranked in said poll – against each other. The SUNYAC Tournament championship game features defending champion Geneseo against Oswego, who was the last team to win back-to-back champions in the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 seasons.
It’s a matchup both teams are excited for.
“That’s what a championship should be: something both teams and players will remember long after the game is over, no matter the outcome,” Oswego head coach Ed Gosek said. “That’s what’s great about college athletics.”
Geneseo, Oswego, and Plattsburgh – the third-seed in the tournament that Oswego beat in the semi-finals – have combined to win the past 11 SUNYAC championships and 21 of the past 22 championships. While Plattsburgh has the most SUNYAC championships (22), Oswego and Geneseo are second and third respectively.
