The New York Islanders didn’t wait for the 2017 National Hockey League draft to start altering their roster.
They made a pair of trades in the two days preceding the draft, held at United Center in Chicago on June 23-24.
On June 21, the club secured its exposed assets in the expansion draft, held to fill the roster of the Vegas Golden Knights, by sending the NHL’s newest club its first-round pick (15th overall) in this year’s draft, its second-round pick in the 2019 draft, defenseman Jake Bischoff and center Mikhail Grabovski. The Golden Knights selected goaltender Jean-Francois Berube from the Islanders in the draft.
