Devin Kaplan never encountered a fork in the road where he had to choose between hockey and another sport. Hockey always has been his top priority.
Kaplan, a 17-year-old forward from Bridgewater, N.J., who is in his second season at USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program, fell in love with the game by watching his older brothers Jordan and Jalen play with the New Jersey Rockets when they were younger.
Their father, Scott, was the person responsible for introducing hockey to Kaplan’s siblings. Scott went to Colgate University and attended hockey games, developing a passion for the sport. He didn’t play it, however. Instead, he played baseball, a love he also passed on to his kids.
