Michigan State University sophomore defenseman Patrick Geary (Hamburg, N.Y.) could be going home permanently one day — to play NHL hockey.
“It’s super-exciting to be drafted by Buffalo,” the 6-foot-1, 185-pound Geary told msuspartans.com following the 2024 NHL Draft in late June. “Growing up in the city and going to the games as a little kid, then to hear my name called by them, it felt like a dream. It will be a moment I will never forget for me and my family.”
Geary was chosen in the sixth round, 172nd overall, by his hometown Sabres on the second day of the draft in Las Vegas. He played his youth hockey with the Buffalo Junior Sabres organization, before spending two years with Waterloo of the USHL prior to enrolling at MSU.
“You dream of being drafted a lot growing up,” he added. “Every year you watch it to see all the best players from all over the world live out their dreams, and it’s definitely special. MSU prepared me for this moment from the day I stepped on campus — we are surrounded by world-class people who will do anything to help you live out your dream.”
