It’s easy to spot Eamon Powell on the ice even if you don’t know his jersey number. He’s the one in control of the game, skating like the wind up and down the ice sheet and leaving opponents in his wake.
The defenseman from Marcellus, N.Y., has become a household name in hockey circles, despite being just 16 years old. Powell’s skating, puck possession and puck-moving skills have earned him a coveted roster spot with USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program in Plymouth, Mich.
"It was always a dream of mine to play for the NTDP. I was informed about the program at an early age. Syracuse guys like Alex Tuch and Joel Farabee went out there. Playing for the United States of America was always a goal of mine," said Powell, who attended an orientation for the program at the end of June.
