From western New York to South Korea, the hockey journey has taken Emily Pfalzer on stretches further than just continents. The Buffalo native already was living a hockey dream, playing professionally in her hometown with the Buffalo Beauts, a team she helped win an Isobel Cup in 2017.
In the gold-medal game against Canada at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, Pfalzer was far from just a bystander. As a defender on the No. 1 pairing for the Americans, she was matched up against the toughest players Canada had to offer.
"Amazing," Pfalzer told the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle of her Olympic experience. "Honestly, so many moments are going through my head right now."
With Team USA trailing Canada in the third period of the championship game, Pfalzer cut the angle on a Team Canada two-on-one, leading to Maddie Rooney’s save that sent Monique Lamoureux-Morando down the ice for the game-tying tally.
