BUFFALO, N.Y. — University of Massachusetts freshman right wing Bobby Trivigno will be suspended for Saturday night’s national championship game against Minnesota Duluth.
New England Hockey Journal’s Jeff Cox first broke the news Friday morning. The incident in question happened late in the third period when Trivigno left his feet to elbow a Denver player. Pioneers coach David Carle argued with referees when no call was made, but the play didn’t go to review.
The NCAA looked into the incident and deemed a one-game suspension was necessary. Thus, UMass will be without a player who is on the first power play unit at the net front and provides energy and spark throughout the lineup.
Trivigno scored the first UMass goal of the game on Thursday night. For the season, the Setauket, N.Y., native has 13 goals and 15 assists in 28 games.
