For Iliana Smith and Natalie Zarcone, playing Division 1 college hockey always has been the goal.
In a span of five weeks, they turned their dreams into reality.
Smith and Zarcone will move on to Hockey East programs once they wrap up their time at Northwood School in Lake Placid, N.Y. Smith committed to New Hampshire in September, while Zarcone committed to Vermont the following month. Both girls are 5-foot-6 defenders who thrive on the ice together for the Huskies.
Northwood coach Trevor Gilligan said the girls ebb and flow off each other, especially on the offensive blue line and power play.
