Hard work pays off for Kings’ Alex Iafallo

Continuing a trend of Buffalo-area upstarts, undrafted L.A. forward proves NHL GMs wrong with productive rookie campaign

By Wayne FishFebruary 1, 2018

Revenge, they say, is a dish best served cold, so just how black-ice frigid was Alex Iafallo’s skate to redemption after going undrafted by the NHL?

Well, how about ripping up and down the rink on the first line as a rookie this year for the former two-time Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings?

Now that’s showing NHL birddogs and front-office draft brainiacs just how wrong they really were. They could have had the talented forward tucked away in somebody’s farm system somewhere for safe keeping.

But no, they let him get away, and all he did as a senior last season was score the winning goal in the University of Minnesota Duluth’s 2-1 semifinal victory over Harvard in the NCAA Frozen Four, followed by another goal in the Bulldogs’ 3-2 loss to Denver in the championship game.
