Delbarton isn’t an easy team to beat once in a season, let alone multiple times. That’s what Christian Brothers Academy needed to do, however, to finish the season undefeated and win the New Jersey Non-Public championship.
Behind the stellar performance of senior goalie John Donohoe, CBA — ranked No. 1 in the state in the NJ.com Top 20 rankings — defeated No. 3-ranked Delbarton by a score of 3-0.
“Going into that game for us, we’ve seen Delbarton before,” CBA head coach Andy Gojdycz said. “We felt they were the best team we played all year. It’s the top two teams going for the championship.
“They’re going to bring a lot of firepower and their great defense. The advantage for both teams was we’ve played each other. You know what you have to do going in. It’s not what we did; it’s how we did it.”
