Jack Mallinson’s season began as a forward on the Pelham JV boys hockey team. It ended as the starting goalie on the Pelicans’ varsity team that won the Division II New York York championship.
The junior netminder made 21 saves in the Pelicans’ wild 7-6 overtime win over Section VI’s Starpoint in the Division II state final on March 13 at HarborCenter. The game featured 13 goals and multiple lead changes, with Ben Rosenberg scoring the game-winning goal on the power play in overtime.
“I think that game pretty much summed up our season,” Mallinson said. “It was a roller coaster, had a great ending and it was fun the whole way through.”
Mallinson also made 12 stops in the Pelicans’ 7-1 win over Section II’s Queensbury in the Division II state semifinals on March 12.
