The third U.S. team in six years to win a bronze medal at the IIHF World Championship was littered with players with New York or New Jersey ties. The Americans clinched their fourth top-four finish at the tournament in that span with a 4-1 win over archrival Canada May 20.
Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane (Buffalo, N.Y.) and New Jersey Devils goaltender Keith Kinkaid (Farmingville, N.Y.) were selected as two of the three U.S. Players of the Tournament. Kinkaid made 24 saves in the final outing and finished the tournament with a .912 save percentage and six victories, while Kane led all scorers with 20 points, including 12 on assists, as the team’s captain.
