Shane Pinto has a reminder on his phone that tells him to “Get better every day.
”The 18-year-old, right-handed shooting forward from Franklin Square, N.Y., has been doing exactly that ever since he started living by that demand two years ago, when he was in his first of two seasons at Selects Academy.
Now in his first season in the United States Hockey League, Pinto started the campaign with the Lincoln Stars and registered 32 points (17-15-32) in 30 games, before being dealt on Jan. 23 to the Tri-City Storm. With his new club, he has 10 points (3-7-10) in nine contests, as of Feb. 21.
The 6-foot-2, 188-pounder and 2019 National Hockey League draft-eligible prospect is ranked 35th among North American skaters on NHL Central Scouting’s midseason rankings.
