
The 2019 NHL Draft could be a banner year for Americans, including New York and New Jersey residents. Bedford, N.Y., native Trevor Zegras and Elmira, N.Y., native John Beecher headline the region’s top prospects for the draft that will take place June 21-22, 2019 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The pair top New York Hockey Journal’s rankings of the top 2001-born players in the New York and New Jersey region. There will likely be three other players from the region selected in the first two or three rounds. This birth year also has a couple of late ‘00s that will be potential draft picks in 2020.
Many ‘01s are seniors in prep school or high school and have already made college commitments. The first 17 players and 19 of the first 20 in these rankings are committed. Selects Academy forward Ryan Coughlin of Fairport, N.Y. is the top uncommitted player in the region.
