Once upon a time, skating wasn’t Nick Leddy’s strong suit

Supreme skating skills, slick passing and hockey smarts put Isles veteran in NHL’s ‘upper echelon’

By Leo Scaglione Jr.November 1, 2017

Nick Leddy doesn’t remember his first time on the ice.

He shouldn’t be blamed for not remembering it; after all, he was very young. But he’s been informed of it. By a direct source, too — his dad, Mike.

"I hated skating then," Leddy said, before chuckling. "My dad told me I was scared and very timid of the ice the first couple of times I was out there. But he walked me out and stayed there with me. As I continued skating, I got used to it more and more."

Leddy grew to become so comfortable on the ice he’s now competing in his eighth season as a defenseman in the National Hockey League, his fourth with the New York Islanders.
