Across the globe, the ice is melting. No, that’s not a global warming reference. It is simply fact, as spring and summer begin to turn ice into its liquid form. With only the NHL stretching into June, all the other leagues have long since wrapped up their seasons. A lot of familiar teams found themselves atop the various podiums, with many new, old and foreign faces playing a major role in their successes.
Deutsche Eishockey Liga (Germany)
The reign of Red Bull München finally came to an end in the DEL. The twice defending champs were dethroned by Adler Mannheim (which also was the last team to win before Red Bull’s run). After a solid regular season, former Boston College product Ben Smith (Avon, Conn.) kicked it up a notch in the postseason. He tied for the postseason lead with 14 points in an equal number of games for Mannheim.
