Erica Sloan is a typical smalltown girl. The 16-year-old loves her family. Friends. Sports. The outdoors. She loves everything about her hometown of Potsdam, N.Y. But, like a lot of small-town kids, Sloan is also eager to venture beyond the comfort zone of all that she has ever known. She wants to strike out and her own and experience adventure and excitement.
One look at the numbers and it’s obvious that Sloan has been experiencing some exciting adventures on the ice. Sloan, a junior in her fourth season on the Section VII Potsdam Sandstoners varsity hockey team, has put up an impressive stat line: 34 goals and 16 assists through her team’s first 15 games of the season.
"I definitely think that the players on my team helped me get to where I am," Sloan said. "I play with good linemates, so they help me a lot."
Paired with seventh-grader Kennedy Emerson and eighth-grader Maddie Dinneen, Sloan said the combination of skilled linemates, great teammates and coaches have been at the root of her stats.
