There have been five commitments by area natives to Division 1 colleges, with another three recruits from outside the region signing on with regional schools in a recent flurry of activity on the recruiting front.
Leading the newer class of recruits is ’02 defenseman Hunter McDonald, who announced he will attend Northeastern University in Hockey East. The Fairport, N.Y. product was previously committed to RPI. This change of schools comes on the heels of McDonald’s strong performance at the BioSteel All-American Prospects Game. The Omaha Lancers defenseman is playing his third year of junior hockey, and he’s amassed 95 games in his career, while establishing himself as one of the best defensive defensemen in the USHL, with an intriguing upside beyond the sound positional play.
In addition to McDonald, the seven other players all represent quantity and quality both in terms of talent and the schools they will have the opportunity to play for eventually.
