New Jersey hockey fans have more than one team to be excited about this winter.
After losing in the semifinals in each of the past two seasons, the Metropolitan Riveters are looking like a favorite in Year 3 of the National Women’s Hockey League. Thanks to a big assist off the ice, the Rivs can focus on accumulating wins on the ice.
The New Jersey Devils partnered with the Riveters right before the start of the season, giving the Rivs, and the league as a whole, unprecedented support from the NHL.
The Devils will allow the Riveters to use their facilities for no cost, and use their marketing teams to promote the Rivs as strongly as the Devils. The Riveters are the only professional women’s team in the New York metro area, meaning for many fans wanting to watch women’s hockey, they are the only show in town.
