For Mitch Major, it’s about carrying the torch and making sure he keeps the tradition alive.
On Jan. 23, Major, 46, coach of the Section III Skaneateles boys hockey team, earned his 300th career win when the Lakers handed Oswego a 6-2 loss.
For Major, to be able to reach this milestone win and celebrate it with family and friends on the Lakers home ice of Allyn Arena was more than he could ever ask for.
Major was joined on the ice by his wife, Kristen, and their kids, Charlie (13), Henry (11) and Cora (9), as well as his dad, Charlie Major.
After the win, Mitch joked that most of his seniors weren’t even alive when he took over the program 18 years ago. It’s been a labor of love for Major, himself a 1989 graduate of Skaneateles High School and standout hockey player.
