St. Lawrence hired Brent Brekke to be the school’s new hockey coach, it was announced over the holiday weekend.
St. Lawrence had been looking for a replacement for Mark Morris, who was fired in March after serving as head coach for the past three seasons. Brekke comes to the Saints from archival Clarkson University where he served as an assistant coach for the 2018-19 season.
Prior to his one season in Potsdam, Brekke had been an associate head coach at Miami for 10 seasons. Before that, the Minot, N.D., native served as an assistant coach for Cornell.
Brekke played college hockey at Western Michigan, serving as an alternate captain and captain his junior and senior seasons. He played for the Broncos from 1990-1994, saving his best season for last. A defenseman, he accumulated four goals and 25 assists as a senior. Following graduation, he bounced back and forth between the AHL and ECHL for two seasons of minor pro hockey.
