As it happened, from the time Doug Weight metamorphosed from assistant GM/assistant coach into interim head coach, his club (24-12-4) had galloped to within a point of a playoff berth before missing the postseason.
From these facts one primary conclusion can be deduced: With Doug as head coach from the start of this 2017-18 season, the club should be playoff-worthy in his first new term.
