USA Hockey announced its final roster for the 2019 U.S. National Junior Team that will compete in the upcoming IIHF World Junior Championship in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia.
The United States will look to make it three straight medals at this year’s tournament that runs from Dec. 26 through Jan. 5. The U.S. took home the Gold Medal in 2017 in between Bronze Medals in 2016 and 2018.
Three players from New York and New Jersey will compete in the 2019 World Junior Championship: Boston University freshman left wing Joel Farabee (Cicero, N.Y.), Western Michigan freshman defenseman Mattias Samuelsson (Voorhees, N.J.) and Northeastern sophomore goaltender Cayden Primeau (Voorhees, N.J.).
Four players drafted by a NHL team in New York were also selected to the team. In addition to Samuelsson, a Buffalo Sabres second round pick in 2018, the other players whose rights are owned by one of the region’s NHL teams are Wisconsin freshman defenseman K’Andre Miller, a New York Rangers first round pick in 2018, New York Islanders first round pick and Boston College freshman right wing Oliver Wahlstrom, and Boston University sophomore left wing Logan Cockerill, a 2017 seventh round pick of the Islanders.
