Casey Nelson hasn’t picked out a spot just yet to display his first NHL goal puck.
He has more pressing thoughts on his mind now. Like doing whatever he can to earn a full-time job with the Buffalo Sabres.
Nelson, a 25-year-old defenseman, has been one of the few bright spots for the Sabres in a season that grows darker and darker each day.
"It’s gone pretty well. It’s been good, but I’m not done," Nelson said after a practice inside KeyBank Center. "We’ve still got games left and I want to be a part of each one, so I take it one game at a time. I don’t want to get ahead of myself."
Nelson’s first NHL goal, which came at home against Colorado on Feb. 11, was rather eventful. Though the Sabres dropped a 5-4 decision to the Avalanche that night, Nelson became just the second Sabre in franchise history to score his first goal in a shorthanded situation.
