Victor, Sweet Home savor hockey bliss

Blue Devils' Chayse Ierlan, Panthers' Edholm the catalists for their school's first-ever state championships

By Dave RicciApril 1, 2018

Some day Chayse Ierlan and Tyler Edholm will have some amazing war stories to tell their kids about leading their teams to their first-ever state titles. And they won’t have to embellish one step of the journey.

Ierlan was named NYSPHAA D1 Player of the Year and Goalie of the Year as he led Section V Victor to a 5-1 win over Section VI Niagara-Wheatfield.

Edholm’s exploits — including a power-play hat trick in the title game — capped off a dream season for Section VI Sweet Home, as it finished an improbable run to the Div. 2 title by beating Section VI West Seneca West, 7-5, at HarborCenter on March 10-11.

"You dream about this day, and it finally happened to a great group of kids," Sweet Home coach Dave Gerspach said.
