One year after losing the New Jersey state final, Middletown North was back, and with unfinished business. The Lions beat perennial championship contender Chatham, 3-2.
Things started off well for Middletown North, which scored first courtesy of Lachlan Haeger, but in the first 10 minutes of the second period, Chatham stormed back with two goals of its own to take the lead.
Middletown North head coach Donald Wood said the turning point of the game was when, instead of giving up the third goal like the team did last year, Joseph Wall scored the equalizer from a Jimmy Mullarney assist with just under 6 minutes remaining in the second period.
“Chatham was all over us from the start of the period and were able to take the lead at 2-1 there after they had us pinned in our zone for a few shifts in a row,” he said.
