Welcome to New York Hockey Journal 2.0

By Eric SeamansNovember 27, 2018

Dear NYHJ reader,

When we launched New York Hockey Journal nearly eight years ago, we were confident that it would be a hit.

We modeled NYHJ on the very successful New England Hockey Journal, the flagship publication of our parent company, Seamans Media, Inc., which now publishes six popular regional sports magazines. And we strongly suspected that readers throughout New York and New Jersey also would engage with our print magazine, which included coverage of four NHL teams, ECAC Hockey, Atlantic Hockey, Division 3, juniors, prospects, women, high schools and more.

Readers like you have embraced New York Hockey Journal from its first days to today, and I simply cannot thank you enough. Your interest and your support — along with our advertising partners — have helped NYHJ continually evolve, expand and improve over the years.

Because of your valued support, I want to share with you some important updates about New York Hockey Journal.

First, since its beginning, NYHJ always has covered the entirety of both New York state and New Jersey state. Now, though, we have expanded our coverage to also include all of Connecticut, where so many New York-centric players, families and fans reside. Connecticut also remains part of New England Hockey Journal’s coverage area, so now NYHJ readers will enjoy the best of both magazines as it relates to the Nutmeg State. Also, over the past year, we have made significant investments to improve our digital experience and to begin creating additional digital-only content on a near-daily basis in our sister publication, New England Hockey Journal. Our investment in our digital coverage there has been very well received and has persuaded us to do the same for New York Hockey Journal and create additional content catered to our target audience of players and parents.

So in order to best deliver that content, we just launched our new website at NYHockeyJournal.com, a premium digital experience that will better showcase our new coverage and be a lot more reader-friendly. And we are making an even bigger investment in creating daily content that you can’t find anywhere else. With that, we also — for the first time — will be requiring readers to become paying subscribers. Some content will remain free, but most of our content will be premium and available only to subscribers. Subscribers also will have access to the digital edition of the print magazine (including back issues). In order to try out our new site, we are offering a free preview for the first few weeks. All content will be accessible for free until Friday, Dec. 14.

Of course, we will continue to publish our best-in-class print magazine, featuring the best and most inspiring stories from around New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The print magazine always has been distributed free at local training facilities and retailers around the region. As we continue to evolve to provide the best hockey content to our committed readers, the print magazine soon will be available only at select locations. We already have begun a successful partnership program with local hockey organizations to distribute the magazine directly to their members’ homes. The only other way to ensure continuing to receive New York Hockey Journal will be to subscribe and have it delivered directly to your home or work.

With our new changes in print and digital, we are introducing three new membership plans with special introductory offers:

ALL ACCESS (print and digital): Enjoy every issue of NYHJ’s print edition delivered to your home every month, PLUS full access to all content on NYHockeyJournal.com. $99.99 per year.

We often hear from readers how much they love and value New York Hockey Journal. And we’ve strived for eight years to deliver great content to reach the most readers possible. With the appetite for even more content and our investment in creating it, I’m confident that readers like you will continue to support our efforts.

Our company’s mission is “to inspire and inform amateur athletes and their supporters by sharing compelling stories and insightful advice to help further their development throughout their careers.” I truly believe that our new direction is the best way to fulfill our mission and continue to provide you with the very best hockey coverage in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. And I hope that you will continue to support NYHJ and give our new digital coverage the attention it deserves.

We will continue to be the premier resource for inspiration, information and insight. We’ve come a long way in our first eight years, but New York Hockey Journal is only just beginning.

Sincerely,

Eric Seamans
