Katie Kroll (Amherst, N.Y.) can be a key part for Northeastern this season.
Players from the Tri-State region enjoyed great success last college hockey season, including two of the 10 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award finalists coming from New York: Northeastern’s Maureen Murphy (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Penn State’s Kiara Zanon (Fairport, N.Y).
Murphy graduated last spring, but there are plenty of talented players — including Zanon, who transferred to Ohio State in the offseason — stepping up for big seasons for their teams.
The region is full of talented women playing Division 1 hockey.
