Callum Hughes would like nothing more than to be selected in this year's NHL Draft. According to the NHL Central Scouting final rankings, the 6-foot-1, 174-pound 18-year-old forward is was No. 99 among North American skaters.
As great as that draft moment could be, the Basking Ridge, N.J., native has been focused on helping the West Kelowna Warriors of the British Columbia Hockey League win a Fred Page Cup, something the team has not accomplished since 2016.
This season, Hughes has recorded 26 goals and 24 assists for 50 points, including five power-play goals, through 59 games. He also plays on the penalty kill.
Hockey is in Hughes’ blood. His father, Ryan, played collegiately at Cornell and was picked 22nd in the 1990 NHL Draft by the Quebec Nordiques. He played professionally in the AHL, IHL and NHL.
