22 players who stood out at 14U Northeast Pack Event

WOONSOCKET, R.I. – Mount Saint Charles hosted five other 14U teams last weekend at the first Northeast Pack event of the 2022-23 season.

In addition to the hosts, Mid Fairfield Junior Rangers, Long Island Gulls, Bishop Kearney Selects, New Jersey Rockets and Pittsburgh Penguins Elite competed Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Adelard Arena and Smithfield Municipal Rink. All six teams look to be solid, but the Gulls and Mount Saint Charles separated themselves overall. There was at least one standout prospect on each squad.

A number of NHLPA agents took in the games to check in on or recruit potential clients for the future. There were a number of showcases going on across Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire so I did my share of bouncing around from rink to rink.

However, I caught at least a game of all six 14U teams in attendance at the Northeast Pack. Below are 22 players who stood out over the weekend.

Forwards

Ryan Tserlin

NJ Rockets, 1/25/08, left shot, 5-5/130

Tserlin is an impressive prospect, who found the scoresheet in both of his games that I attended. He’s a possession machine and generates a ton of offense with his skill set and brain for the game.

Dylan Dean

Mount Saint Charles, 5/14/08, left shot, 5-9/150

Dean scored a couple of absolute snipes in Saturday afternoon’s game. He’s a big-time goal scorer. The puck came off his stick quickly and with zip.

Kevin Lysohir

LI Gulls, 7/10/08, left shot, 5-3/120

Lysohir was a consistent threat to score and make plays for the Gulls by using his speed. He was able to separate from opposing defenders and make plays in small areas. He had an assist on a pretty give-and-go play in transition.

Cole List

LI Gulls, 5/8/08, right shot, 5-8/130

Each viewing of List seems to end in a similar fashion. He’s not always the biggest, fastest or most skilled, but he always finds his way onto the scoresheet. He’s smart, can score, and picked up a shorthanded assist with relentless puck pursuit.

Will Bent

Mount Saint Charles, 3/12/08, right shot, 5-10/150

Bent had good size, worked hard and played a cerebral game from the center position on the top line with Dean. He makes for a solid one-two scoring punch on this team.

Brody George

Pittsburgh Penguins Elite, 1/25/08, left shot, 5-7/130

George was the Penguins forward who stood out most in my viewing of their game against BK Selects. He’s fast and has that quick twitch in his stride. He scored a beauty of a goal coming down the left wing, firing off a shot without breaking stride.

Mason St. Louis

Mid Fairfield, 1/16/08, right shot, 5-8/125

St. Louis was good in my previous viewing at the Crimson Combine, but I thought he was even better here. He’s skilled and made some plays, especially on the power play. He scored a goal Saturday.

Camden Nimmer

BK Selects, 4/21/08, right shot, 5-5/140

Nimmer was on the smaller side, but he was a good skater who had a second gear. He’s got a shoot-first mentality and generated a couple of quality chances.

Tyler Rothstein

Mid Fairfield, 1/19/08, left shot, 5-4/110

Rothstein has the physical tools to be a very good forward, especially if he can grow and get stronger. He’s fast, quick and agile with an above average stick.

Owen Burke

Mid Fairfield, 4/22/08, left shot, 5-7/135

Burke has size and an explosive, strong stride, especially straight-line. He’s able to use his length to protect pucks.

Rudolfs Berzkalns 

BK Selects, 3/3/08, left shot, 6-0/165

Berzkalns scored the team’s first goal of the game against the Penguins, coming down the left side and sniping one short side. He has good size and looks to have potential as a power forward.

Owen DeGraff

LI Gulls, 1/13/08, right shot, 5-8/135

DeGraff has size and scored a nice goal by going to the net on a transition play Saturday morning. He also assisted on another goal in that game against Mid Fairfield.

Joseph Salandra

Mid Fairfield, 2/15/08, right shot, 5-4/120

Salandra is another one of the handful of smaller, crafty forwards on this Mid Fairfield team. He picked up a nice assist on one of St. Louis’ goals.

Logan Ferrara

New Jersey Rockets, 7/8/08, 5-4/125

Ferrara scored a nice goal in transition during one of the games Saturday at Smithfield Rink. He’s on the smaller side, but he’s crafty and slippery.

Jamie Glance

Mount Saint Charles, 1/1/08, right shot, 5-7/135

I didn’t have many notes on Glance, but he was around the puck a lot and definitely provided depth down the middle as the listed third line center.

Nolan Duskocy

BK Selects, 1/26/08, right shot, 5-10/150 

Duskocy scored a nice goal against the Penguins by driving the far post and banging home a goal. He knew his strengths and played the game as a power forward.

Defensemen

Oskar Drabczynski

Mid Fairfield, 2/13/08, left shot, 5-9/158

I’ve seen Drabczynski a few times now and he’s definitely one of the best defensive prospects in this birth year among players skating in the region. He’s a two-way defender with good size and puck moving capabilities. He has a commanding presence when he’s on the ice.

Anthony Pedalino

LI Gulls, 4/29/08, left shot, 5-9/160

Pedalino had a strong summer, shining in the Junior Chowder Cup and at the Crimson Combine. He’s able to slow the game down and play with poise. He showed off his size, strength and defensive ability. He did a nice job transitioning from defense to offense.

Luke Savage

LI Gulls, 2/27/08, right shot, 6-0/157

Savage had size, gapped well and made some solid reads defensively. He wasn’t flashy, but he made some smart decisions to impact the breakout in a positive manner.

Gavin Callahan

Mount Saint Charles, 1/1/08, left shot, 5-10/160

Callahan is a strong, athletic defender with some skill. He can transition pucks north, quarterback a power play, and defend well enough.

Kaden Sienko

BK Selects, 4/19/08, right shot, 6-0/165

Sienko had size and was smooth. He ran the first power play unit and will get better as he learns to play with more pace.

Kent Greer

Pittsburgh Penguins Elite, 2/7/08, right shot, 5-7/130

Greer was the Penguins defenseman who broke pucks out best. He jump-started a few rushes for his team.
