3 locals named to Hlinka Gretzky Cup Camp roster

Three players from New Yorker and New Jersey were among the 38 players chosen to attend the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup Camp in Plymouth, Mich., next month.

In past summers, they picked who would play for Team USA at the Select 17 camp, which just wrapped up on Wednesday.

Selections for the Hlinka Gretzky Cup team will be a bit different this year.

USA Hockey has decided to have the camp July 20-24 to decide the final roster to send to the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, which takes place Aug. 1-6 in Breclav, Czechia, and Trencin, Slovakia.

Forward Drew DellaSalla (Rye, N.Y.) will be at the camp. He played this past season for the Brunswick School.

Defenseman Alex Bales (East Amherst, N.Y.) will also be at the camp. He played for Kent School last season and is committed to Providence.

Forward Callum Hughes (Basking Ridge, N.J.) also earned an invitation to the camp. He played for the Mount Saint Charles 16U team this season and is slated to suit up for the West Kelowna Warriors of the British Columbia Hockey League in 2023-24. He’s committed to Boston University.

USA Hockey expects to finalize the roster for the Hlinka Gretzky Cup team on July 24.
