Jeff Orlowski has had an accomplished coaching career with the Kenmore/Grand Island/Lockport girls hockey team.
Since Section VI started offering girls hockey in 2010, the team has won seven Section VI titles in nine appearances, including five straight from 2012 to 2016 and back-to-back championships the past two years. His teams also have made the state semifinals six times, the state championship game twice and won two Western New York Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Federation titles. But for Orlowski, it’s time to do something else.
Orlowski resigned as coach after the 2022-23 season. The plan is for Orlowski’s assistant of 13 years, Matt Miller, to take over as head coach.
Orlowski, who finished with a 124-118-17 record, said it was a difficult decision to step away, especially due to the team being so good and likely remaining strong for the next couple of years.
Orlowski is not resigning because he doesn’t love coaching the team; it’s simply because he has too much on his plate.
