Carey Terrance’s childhood dream was realized when the Anaheim Ducks drafted the recent Salmon River High School graduate in the second round — 59th overall — in this year's NHL Draft.
While he was thrilled to hear his name called, the 18-year-old forward, who attended the draft, made sure he took the time to celebrate with his family.
“I don’t think it quite went through my mind right away,” said Terrance, who led the Ontario Hockey League’s Erie Otters this past year with 30 goals and tied for the team lead with 47 points. “I just tried to focus on hugging my parents and my sisters and go down to their table. I don’t think it really settled in right away, obviously, but I’m really grateful to have Anaheim call my name. Now that I’m here, I’m kind of settled in now and have been on the ice with them. It’s an unreal feeling. I just tried to enjoy it with family.”
Family means everything to Terrance, who is from the Mohawk Nation at Akwesasne, which encompasses parts of New York, Ontario and Quebec along each side of the St. Lawrence River.
