One year later, it’s more of the same for Clarkson. It took overtime, on three different occasions, for the Golden Knights to get back to the top of the women’s college hockey mountain.
With the championship experience behind them, Clarkson defeated another upstart New York squad in its conference, but it wasn’t simple. Colgate made a run of its own. After dominating throughout the ECAC all season, the Raiders surprised the hockey world with an upset of Wisconsin to get to the title game.
Then, the Raiders took the defending champions to overtime. Unfortunately for them, it seemed like Clarkson had them right where they wanted them.
Freshman Elizabeth Giguere struck just under eight minutes into overtime to deliver another national championship to the Golden Knights with a 2-1 triumph at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis.
