Geneseo head coach Chris Schultz sat down with goalie Adam Harris, then a sophomore, for his postseason meeting. Harris carried a confidence into the room. After all, in the 10 games he appeared in during the 2022-23 season, he posted a 4-1-1 record with a .938 save percentage and a 1.65 goals-against average.
Additionally, starting goalie Matt Petizian was graduating. Harris would be the most experienced goalie ahead of two incoming freshmen, meaning he had the inside track to the starting job for the 2023-24 season.
Schultz cautioned, however, that it’s not uncommon for a newcomer to arrive and outplay the incumbent.
“Don’t let that happen,” he told Harris. “Whatever you have to do to prepare for this summer, don’t let someone take your job.”
